Tips for York’s Ebor meeting -- DAY TWO (THURSDAY)

York’s Ebor meeting, which is now into its second day, is a highlight of the racing year in this neck of the woods. An annual pilgrimage for many punters.

There’s no doubt the feel of the meeting has changed since its switch from three days to four to incorporate Saturday.

But the quality remains. Twenty-five races, and not one worth less than £40,000 this year.

Whether your bag is top-quality Group races, richly competitive handicaps or two-year-old contests unearthing the stars of the future, you’ll see it all on the Knavesmire this week.

In response to many requests, I am posting my selections for every race over the four days. These will not be tips for the sake of tipping, but the horses I am backing as a semi-professional punter.

In races where I am keen on more than one horse, alternatives in brackets are given to the main selections. I am aiming to have each day’s advice posted by midnight the previous night.

Day one yielded a nice profit, courtesy of two winners, BLAINE and POSTPONED. However, both were tarnished a little by the scourge of Rule 4 deductions. The proliferation of non-runners at the major Flat meetings this season has become unacceptable.

Here are my selections for Thursday which, of course, is Yorkshire Oaks Day.

DAY TWO (THURSDAY)

1.55 FAST ACT (Mubtaghaa, New Providence)

2.30 ANTHEM ALEXANDER (Cursory Glance)

3.05 GABRIAL’S KAKA (Kosika, Parbold)

3.40 TAGHROODA

4.20 ARABIAN COMET (Starlet)

4.55 SPARKLE FACTOR (Artistic Charm, Nakuti)

Incidentally, for those of you looking for an ante-post interest in the Ebor itself on Saturday, the two I have backed so far are WADI AL HATTAWI and ELIDOR, both each/way.
