Thrilling finish gives Worksop Ladies a win

Worksop Ladies battled right to the end of a pulsating game against West Bridgford Ladies II on Saturday, coming up with a late winner.

Jade Hamer opened the scoring after a fabulous pass and move play down the left.

West Bridgford equalised just after half-time.

Both teams were frustrated during a period in which neither team could keep possession of the ball.

Disagreements with the umpires and harsh challenges lead to a very heated period of the match.

Worksop captain, Rebecca Hetherington, was shown a green card and asked to settle her players.

The Worksop ladies did settle and broke away in the final minute of the game with a lovely through ball from Helen Williams, finding Esther Gray upfront who neatly laid the ball off to Ailsa Gray to score the winning goal.

Both teams thoroughly enjoyed the game and Esther Gray won Player of the Match.

Worksop Ladies II remain second in the league after a 4-0 victory against University of Nottingham IV.

Worksop had all the possession in the first half but could not find the back of the net.

Early in the second half Michelle Lister broke through to score Worksop’s first goal.

Three more then followed thanks to Fiona Webb, Amanda Young and Sian Jago.

Young had a fantastic game at right midfield and was awarded Player of the Match for her sterling efforts.

Capping a fine day for the club, Worksop Ladies III beat Beeston VI in a very tight, must win game.

Worksop took the lead just before half-time with a goal from Tina Booth.

A great team effort and consistent pressure lead to Worksop being awarded a penalty corner.

Player of the Match Sam Badger converted the penalty corner into a goal with a superb far post knock in.

Worksop won 2-0 and swapped places with Beeston to become the second placed side in the league.
