Teams battle it out at Dinno’sMay Day festival

DINNINGTON Rugby Club hosted their annual May Day Festival on Sunday.

The Under 10s welcomed teams from Scunthorpe, Lincoln and Cleethorpes and in the true spirit of the game, each team provided players to make up a ‘Barbarians’ team.

A club spokesman told the Guardian: “The weather was on our side for once and helped make the festival a resounding success.”

Dinnington put forward two teams, the Blues and the Yellows.

Each team enjoyed a number of successes with scorelines of 12-0 and 30-0 in the opening matches.

After playing three games, Dinnington Blues and Yellows were lying second in each of their respective groups.

Unfortunately they were both beaten by the finalists, Lincoln A and Scunthorpe A sides, with Lincoln A becoming the festival winners after a hard fought final.

The festival concludes a fantastic season which saw Joe Blakemore being awarded the Most Improved Player, Oliver Fallon, the Coaches’ Player of the Year and Reece Wilks voted as the Parents’ Player of the Year.

The spokeman added: “All the coaches have seen team spirit and skills improve in every player, new and old, over the season and thank the parents for their continuing support.”

“For the players – well done for all your enthusiasm and commitment in both matches and training. Looking forward to seeing you all soon.”

Approximately 550 players across age groups from Under 7s to Under 12s battled it out in the festival.

The Under 6s players from Dinnington enjoyed a fun training session with their counterparts from Lincoln.

Scunthorpe won the Under 7s, 8s and 9s tournament, Lincoln took the Under 10s title, Selby the Under 11s event and Dinnington won the Under 12s section.
