Swift continues to work for London Olympics selection

BEN Swift geared up for this weekend’s Tour of Swiss with an improved performance in Luxembourg, as he bids for a place in the Great Britain Olympic cycling team.

The Team Sky rider hopes to make the selectors’ long list, which is due to be revealed next week, and has been busy on the road since injuring himself before the Giro d’Italia.

After competing in the Tour of Norway Swift raced in Luxemboug last week and was pleased with his performance, even if he didn’t pick up a victory.

Anston’s Swift said: “I had a better experience in the Tour of Luxembourg then I did the last time I rode this race in 2010.”

“I came out of the race with two second places, which was pleasing after my recent injuries.”

“It would have been nice to get a win, but it’s a good sign that the legs are starting to come good ready for Tour of Swiss, which is starting on Saturday.”

He believes that the challenge presented in Luxembourg will stand him in good stead, and he did enough to stay on track in his Olympic selection bid.

“The terrain out in Luxembourg is tough, with barely any flat, it is like the terrain where it is up and down and quite technical.”

“The legs were feeling good on the climbs, and in the sprint on the final day I was happy, as that was a very tough day.”

“I came in to Luxembourg wanting a good solid week, I feel like I have got what I wanted out of this week,” he added.

Swift heads to the Tour of Swiss today (Friday).
