Sutton swimming sensation passes on top tips as excitment builds for Rio 2016

Swimmers at Nottingham's Harvey Hadden Sports Village were given top tips from one of the country's most decorated competitors.

Paralympic, Commonwealth, British, European and World swimming champion, Ollie Hynd MBE, made a guest appearance for Speedo’s Dive In campaign, aiming to help adults swim their way to fitness by improving their front crawl.

The Sutton-in-Ashfield swimmer is in the middle of his preparations for Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, which begin in September, but took the time to pass on advice to the group who took part in the free 60-minute session on Sunday.

He said: “It was fantastic to see the level of participation in the Dive In campaign. I was pleasantly surprised to see the turn out and I think it’s great to see so many adults turning up to learn how to improve their swimming.

“A lot of these guys who swim regularly do it on their own and don’t have the extra pair of eyes on them that they get at these sessions so it’s nice to have coaches around to give them a few pointers.

“Even a few tiny tweaks can make such a big difference so they’ll be getting lots more out of their swim sessions.”

And, on the countdown to Rio, Hynd says the excitment is really building.

“I’m feeling really excited,” he said. “It’s a huge summer coming up and it’s all starting to feel real now. It’s now just about making the most of every session; it’s the last big push now in the pool and gym before we start to rest and take it down a notch.

“It looks like it’s going to be a great games and I’m sure Brazil will put on a great show.”
