Striders win World Championships trials places

Gainsborough and Morton Striders will be represented by at least two runners in the Inter-Counties and World Cross Country Championships Trials in Birmingham this year.

Both Mitchell O’Connor and Lorna Allison were invited for selection for the March trials after their performances at the Lincolnshire Cross Country Championships at Caythorpe, near Grantham last weekend.

Shannon Conway and Helen Robinson have also been named as reserves for the event.

O’Connor finished eighth in the Under 15 Boys event, over 3.01 miles, in an impressive time of 20.54.

Allison won the Veteran Ladies race, with a top class effort in 28.10 for 3.92 miles.

The course included hills, water hazards and ploughed fields and tested the runners to their limits.

Conway and Robinson did the Striders proud in the Under 13 Girls and Senior Ladies respectively.
