Striders win the town’s annual duathlon

A FRIENDLY sporting challenge between Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club and Morton Striders Athletic Club took place on Sunday morning, with the athletes coming out on top.

The weather was sunny with a cold northwest wind, and two strong teams made it a sporting and exciting ‘duathlon’.

The teams had to run the first lap then cycle four laps finishing with a final running lap. It was a spectacular event as a large number of supporters encouraged their team on.

The 2.5 mile circuit started and finished opposite West Lindsey Leisure Centre on the Avenue.

Jordan Skelly Gainsborough Aegir 57.32, Michael Adlington Morton Striders 1.02.33, Ruth Wilson Morton Striders 1.05.22, Matt Hindmarsh Gainsborough Aegir 1.06.14, Simon Hall Morton Striders 1.06.20, Angela Overson Morton Striders 1.06.37, Shaun Boyle Morton Striders 1.07.31, Brian Vollentine Morton Striders 1.08.18, Peter Hanks Gainsborough Aegir 1.12.57, Helen Robinson Morton Striders 1.14.74, Daniel Edwards Morton Striders 1.18.41, Trevor Halstead Gainsborough Aegir 1.22.21.

The competition was a close run event with Morton Striders team winning by two minutes 28 seconds.

Gainsborough Aegir Cycling club’s Jordan Skelly was the fastest competitor completing the event in under 1 hour.

Morton Striders team’s total time was 3 hours 14 minutes 15 seconds, winning the event.

Gainsborough Aegir’s team time was 3 hours 16 minutes 43 seconds.

The cycling club’s Trevor Halstead told the Gainsborough Standard: “Well done to the two teams for putting on a great event, and thanks to all who helped put the event on, from time keepers to marshals and of course the spectators.”
