Sport on its head

THE recent unseasonable warm spell has seen sport turned on its head, with summer species dominating nets.

Unfortunatly a lot of the local clubs have already finished their traditional summer series and the winter leagues have yet to start but there has never been a better time to get some last gasp pleasure fishing in or enter one of the many open matches.

On the saltwater side of our sport the large shoals of whiting on the east coast beaches that we reported on a few weeks ago have moved back off shore and probably wont return until we have had the first couple of ‘good’ frosts of the year.

But in the interim we have reports of bass and smooth hound being taken from Hornsea down to Spurn.

We have had further enquiries regarding any possibility of running the annual beach match, as we previously reported personal commitments make this impossible this year, however if any one wants to take on board the organising then we will offer whatever help we can.

Our old friend Mick Simpson from the Tuesday Club informs us that they will be holding their AGM on Monday 17th October at the Innings Pub on Prospect with a 7.30pm start.

Any members interested in the running of the club or the choosing of next year’s venues is urged to attend.

Mick also tells us that he has been pleasure angling on the Grafton AA length of the Chesterfield near the Rhodesia Road bridge and has been taking catches of quality fish on pole fished pellet or caster.

This is a day ticket water reasonably priced at £2.50 per day or £15 for a season ticket and £7.50 for concessions.

Neil Nicholson of the Worksop & DAA is running a junior open match at Aston Ponds on 22nd October.

The event is for 17 years and under, and the draw takes at 09.30 with an entry fee of £6.

Any youngsters interested can contact Neil on 01909 484652 or 07901 795209.
