Rockware made a successful start to their 2015 campaign, taking 18 points from their draw with Papplewick and Linby III.

With rain in the air, Papplewick won the toss and opted to field.

And after a brief delay, newly formed opening pair of Atherton and Bell gave little respect to the bowling, putting on 46 until the latter was bowled for 17.

Atherton (28) continued his onslaught before holing out off the bowling off Paulson.

This brought together Eccles (36) and Darryl Bell (12) whose 50 partnership took the score to 112-2 at drinks, before Bell was bowled by Singh.

Eccles soon followed to a good catch at point.

Edwards (61*) and Sutton (28) progressed the score to 177-5 with 10 overs remaining before some big hitting from Lake, Bateman and Stansbury (14*) took Rockware to an impressive 251-7.

Youngster Kyle Wesley (2-14) was given the responsibility of bowling with the new ball, making the breakthrough in his second over before striking again in his third.

He was backed up by two wickets in two balls by Atherton as they reduced Papplewick to 14-4.

An excellent, probing, spell by Brad Roe (2-24) left Papplewick reeling at 53-6, however dogged batting by Birkin (36 from 111 balls) and Tinker (2-44) frustrated the hosts until the resurgent Atherton brilliantly caught and bowled Tinker.

Lake (1-12) took the eighth wicket – Bateman taking a brilliant slip catch.

In near darkness, Atherton (4-16) finally removed Birkin LBW but time ran out leaving Rockware, who bowled 23 maiden overs, with the lion’s share of the points.
