Skelly first home in the 10-mile time trial

The course started on Laughton Lane proceeding towards Laughton, taking the first left signposted Wildsworth, and at Wildsworth turning left along the riverside, passing through East Stockwith, Walkerith, heading to Morton and finishing on Laughton Lane.

Riders coped well accomplishing some good times.

The Trans Pennine Trail rides are always an expedition into the unknown and Sunday’s ride was full of adventure.

Trevor Halstead’s and Loll Dickenson’s ride was 110miles long.

The Trans Pennine Trail is a long distance multi-user trail using canal and disused railway paths also bridleways.

The group departed Gainsborough heading to Sprotbrough Bridge near Doncaster where the riders joined the Trans Pennine Trail.

Following the cycle route to Dunford Bridge, the highest point on the Trans Pennine Trail at 550 feet, near to the Woodhead Pass in Derbyshire.

Retracing the Trans Pennine Trail to Adwick Bridge, the riders then departed from the cycle route heading home through Mexborough, Conisbrough, Braithwell, Maltby, Stone, Oldcotes, Blyth, Ranskill, Mattersey, Clayworth, Gringley on the Hill and Beckingham retuning to Gainsborough along the A631.

The ride was an interesting experience, the old railway architecture was stunning, the Peak District was spectacular, the ancient packhorse route and bridge on Willow lane near Oxspring was very interesting.

Due to the very wet weather the Trans Pennine Trail was in poor condition riding was difficult and progress was slow at times, the riders encountered heavy rain in the Peak District.

Trevor broke a spoke and punctured his rear wheel, repairs were done enabling the riders to complete their rides.

On Sunday 2nd September the leisure ride to Kirton in Lindsey will be suitable for beginners and families.
