Shaw’s men came from behind three times, the final goal coming just seconds after Cleethorpes thought they’d won the game in the 90th minute and were caught on the hop whilst still celebrating in their own half.

And the Tigers boss felt that the draw was the least his side deserved.

He said: “I felt we were the better side for around 80 minutes - quicker, fitter, faster, hungry, and the determination and desire was outstanding. We should have won the game but a couple of mistakes proved costly.

“If that’s what we can expect this season then I’m very excited. They’re a great group with a fantastic attitude.

“Adam Scott’s first goal was incredible on his competitive home debut and he’ll be a big player for us.

“The third goal was down to us being alert. We asked the referee if we could kick off and capitalised on Cleethorpes not being ready. I thought the chance had gone when the initial shot was blocked but credit to Mark Fereday for following in.

“It’s been the best start I’ve had as Worksop boss and I feel the players can only get better.”

Attention now turns to the FA Cup and Sunday’s visit of North West Counties Premier Division side Ashton Athletic.

Tigers beat Hallam 4-2 to reach the preliminary round and success on Sunday would secure a home first qualifying round tie against either Mossley or Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Shaw added: “It’s been nice to have home ties this year given how often we’ve been drawn away in previous season.

“Ashton are a big, strong side who will really give it a go and make it tough for us, but if we play as we did against Cleethorpes I can see us getting through.”
