The event celebrates all things sport in Bassetlaw, and will recognise the achievements, success and dedication of individuals and teams across 13 awards categories, which encompass athletes, coaches, volunteers, clubs and schools.

And, with only eight weeks to go until the deadline for entries, now is the time perfect time to submit your nominations.

This year’s categories include: Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year (Under 14), Sportsman and Sportswoman (14-18), Senior Sportsperson, Junior Community Sports Team, Junior and Senior Volunteer, Sports Coach, Sports Club, Primary and Secondary School Teams and Lifetime Achievement Award.

Coun Julie Leigh, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods encouraged local residents to nominate sport stars and help to highlight the positive contributions to sport in our midst.

She said: “The Bassetlaw Sports Awards are a highlight of the year, where we celebrate sporting success as well recognise the dedicated volunteers and coaches who work tirelessly to make sport happen in the district.”

“So, if you know of someone who deserves true sporting recognition this year, don’t let them miss out.”

Last year’s winners included Bassetlaw Triathlon Club who picked up the Club of the Year award.

Sportsman of the Year, aged 14 to 18, went to Worksop College student Oliver Dane, while golfer Emily Lyle was crowned Sportswoman of the Year, 14 to 18.

The Lifetime Achievement in Sport went to the Retford Athletics Club founder, Terry Lovett.
