The school kids made the long journey to Northumberland for the 2013 British Schools Score Orienteering Championships, held at Druridge Bay Country Park, near Amble.

Each orienteer had 45 minutes to visit as many controls as possible.

Runners were awarded 10 points for every control visited, but lost five for every minute they took over the 45.

As the afternoon progressed, results were updated by the organisers as competitors finished, and eventually Bassetlaw was able to celebrate some great results.

There were two gold medals, one silver and four bronze returning to the district.

At the medal ceremony, Worksop College Prep School pupils Angus McCallion and Sebastian Price stood on top of the podium after running as a pair and winning gold in the Year 5 Boys race.

In the school team competition, Worksop College Prep also took gold, in the Middle/Prep section.

Their girls came home in second place to earn silver.

Individual bronze medals went to George Carley, a Year 8 boy from Elizabethan Academy, Year 5 girls Elle Severn and Emma Robinson from Bracken Lane Primary and Eleanor Cooley, a Year 9 from Worksop College.

Tuxford Academy completed an excellent day for Bassetlaw, as their senior boys won bronze in the Boys Upper Secondary team section.
