Run for your lives

THE zombie apocalypse is set to hit Worksop on Sunday morning.

But fear not, the ghouls pounding the town’s streets are simply entrants in the Halloween-themed Worksop Fun Run.

The 31st Worksop Half Marathon and Fun Run will see over 2,000 runners visit the town.

The mass start at 10.30am promises to be an inspiring spectacle, with many of the runners in fancy dress.

There is still time to enter the Half Marathon (13.1 miles) or the Fun Run (2.5miles) on Sunday morning, at the market place.

The GK Kia sponsored half marathon will start at 10.30am on Newgate Street, followed by the fun run at 10.45am.

The course will follow the same route as last year, leaving Newgate Street, turning on to Park Street and heading up Sparken Hill and along the B6034 as far as Carburton crossroads.

It will then pass through Clumber Park, before exiting the park at Truman’s Lodge.

The route then turns right along the Old Coach Road to Manton Lodge, before turning onto Windmill Lane.

The runners will pass through the grounds of Worksop College and return to Newgate Street via Sparken Hill.

Road closures: Newgate Street and Park Street from 7am to 3pm; Sparken Hill and the B6034 from Netherton Road roundabout to Carburton crossroads from 10am to 3pm.

Police will minimise inconvenience to residents by allowing access to and from properties between groups of runners.

A spokesman for the Worksop Harriers, who organise the races, said: “Alternative diversion routes will be clearly signposted to ensure minimum disruption, the Worksop Harriers ask you to try and plan your journeys accordingly and apologise for any inconvenience.”

Clumber Park will remain open as usual with access open from the Appley Head entrance on the A614 Nottingham Road.
