'˜Quality of Tigers signings is crucial'

Trench is one of the more senior players in the current Worksop side, and netted the winner from the penalty spot as they ended a long wait for a victory at Harrogate Railway Athletic on Saturday.

And while the full-back is keen to remain at Sandy Lane, he will be guided by the quality and experience of those brought in by boss Duncan Milligan.

He said: “I really want to be part of things next year but I want to be part of a competitive and successful side the gaffer knows that who he brings in will be key to senior players like myself wanting to stay.

“It’s been a difficult season on several levels but this is a fantastic club with a great fanbase and I know of several good players from this kind of level and above who want to play here.

“So I hope that the summer will give the management team the chance to build a really good squad. That’s what the club needs to get it back to where I believe it belongs.”

Trench felt Saturday’s win at Harrogate was reward for the hard work put in by the team’s young players.

He said: “It was a relief in many ways because the younger lads have had a tough time.

“They’re not all physically ready for the NCEL yet and it’s showed at times but the senior players like Mitch Husbands and myself have been getting behind them and telling them to get their heads down and work hard.

“The gaffer and John Buckley have taken a lot of stick too so it was great to be able to get a win for them.”

Tigers will complete their league campaign at Parkgate on Saturday, their hosts already relegated.

Trench added: “It will be a relief in some ways to get the season finished but fantastic if we can do so with a couple of wins in a row under our belts.”

At the top of the table, Pontefract Collieries were promoted as champions at the weekend.

Pickering Town will join them if they take four points from their last two games, on Thursday and Saturday, and therefore overtake current second-placed side AFC Mansfield who have completed their fixtures.
