Worksop Town boss Ryan Hindley says he's happy with his team despite them being on a six-game winless run.

The 4-4 draw with Liversedge on Saturday saw them denied victory by a last minute equaliser, meaning the win over Parkgate on October 28 was their last in the NCEL Premier Division.

But Hindley says there is no need to panic, with the season’s targets still very much in sight.

He said: “We’ve not been playing badly and Saturday’s game was actually a strange one because for a while we’ve been defending well but not been clinical enough in front of goal, yet on this occasion we scored four times but didn’t defend well.

“We’re not far away from getting the right results and should have won convincingly on Saturday which is something I take positives from.”

Hindley believes next season continues to be the target to aim at when it comes to mounting a serious promotion challenge, but knows that building a team for that challenge isn’t a quick process.

He said: “Promotion was never on the cards this year, I want top eight finish and firmly believe we’ll achieve that.

“What I’m keen for is to have a solid and stable squad of around 15 or 16 players who all want to be here not just this season but next as well. Those motivated by money will no doubt be tempted elsewhere, but those motivated by playing in front of 400-plus crowds, being part of a close-knit dressing room and also being part of a club on the up will feel right at home and that’s what I’m after.

“It might mean I have to go through 40 or 50 players this season to find that kind of team, but if it means I get what I want for next year then that’s what I’ll do.”

Hindley also praised the club’s fans who continue to turn out in good numbers despite the club’s patchy form.

He said: “The fans are amazing. They’ll have their concerns at times, I’m sure, and they’re welcome to their voice them towards me if it’s to do with things I have control over and which I am happy to take responsibility for.

“Overall though they’re very loyal and we are so lucky to have the numbers come through the gate that we do each week.”

A trip to Maltby Main follows this weekend before a League Cup third round clash at home to Bridlington Town. Those games precede the visit of high-flying Pontefract Collieries on October 20.

Hindley said: “These are two really big league games coming up but our performance on Saturday gives me confidence that, as we often do, we can perform well against the top sides and have every chance of picking up points.”
