Rising stars on show in exciting boxing action at Worksop

An exciting boxing show at the North Notts Community Arena is to feature up-and-coming talent from the ever-expanding JE Promotions stable, based in Worksop.

Rising Stars, promoted by former professional fighter Joe Elfidh in association with Scott Calow Boxing, takes place at the popular Worksop venue on Saturday, March 10.

It is their seventh event at the arena, and topping the bill is fast-improving super-welterweight Kyle Fox, who hails from Armthorpe. The 24-year-old will be up against Dale Arrowsmith in his first six-rounder as he begins to work towards title contention.

Fox, a former Yorkshire amateur champion, finished his debut year in the top half of the 154lb British rankings after four wins out of four.

In his previous outing last November, he boxed clever to defeat the experienced veteran William Warburton on points, and has won all 16 of his professional rounds in his career so far.

Trained by Michael White out of the Fighting Fit Gym in Dinnington, Fox said, “I am looking to get another win on the record and to get more rounds under my belt.”

Also on the bill, in his second fight under the JE Promotions banner, is ‘The Hurricane’ Hassan Ahmed, who has well and truly dusted off the ring rust since joining the successful outfit in 2017. The Yemeni-born boxer had not fought since 2014 because of contract issues with his former manager, but he’s now back in business after teaming up with Elfidh.

A routine points win last September against fellow JE Promotions fighter Ricky Leach has re-started the momentum for the talented 25-year-old, who is keen to get back to where he should be after more than six years in the paid ranks. Trained by Steve Barnes at the Lower Manor Boxing Club, the flyweight will be looking to make up for lost time against an opponent yet to be confirmed.

There will be exciting heavyweight action provided by Mark Bennett, who made a successful transition to the pro ranks last November at the same venue. The former unlicensed champion looked strong as he beat Hungarian Ferenc Zsalek comfortably on points on his debut.

The 30-year-old Doncaster puncher, known as ’Bad News’, only had his first boxing fight at the age of 27, but has already voiced his plans to reach the top ten as soon as possible.

Seven-time Yorkshire amateur champion Sonny Boy Price and Dinnington’s Chris Reyes also star on the March 10 card in four-rounders.
