Riders turn out in the cold

Despite the colder weather starting to settle in for the long winter season the number of cyclists attending the 45 mile run is as strong as ever.

For the first time in some weeks the wind on Sunday was less than six miles per hour, and this allowed the group to ride at a faster pace than normal.

They reached an average speed of around 16mph during the outing.

The ride itself was cold to start when leaving the leisure centre but riders were warmed quickly as the fresh winter sun pierced the clouds and the group pressed on making the most of the quite Sunday roads.

Winding their way into Morton the group pressed on through Blyton before reaching the day’s first obstacle in the form of Kirton Hill.

After Kirton Hill an escape group broke away in the shape of Paul Brownless, James Vickers, Darrell Stacey and Rob Webster, the four riders in the breakaway formed a pace line on the homeward leg whilst the larger group led by the club’s Sunday ride coordinator Justin Atkinson held a more relaxed speed before arriving back in Gainsborough.

In club news, due to personal commitments Shaun Pyecroft officially stepped down as a chairman of Trent Valley Road club on 21st November.

The democratic process of re-election will take place in due course.

But in the meantime, Mike Overton who was acting as the club’s racing secretary was formally voted in as ‘interim club chairman’ by the committee on 25th November.

Mike told the Standard: “I would like to thank Shaun for all his hard work over the last two years and hope I can guide the club to further success.”
