Riders pay respect

The Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club Leisure Ride was a 71-mile Mystery Ride led by Trevor Halstead on Sunday.

The ride was enjoyed by Daniel Nicholson, Colin Smith, Loll Dickenson, and Joe Smith, 15.

The riders started at Roseway before heading over the River Trent into Notts. The ride progressed through Beckingham, Walkeringham, Misterton, West Stockwith and Graiselound.

Passing into North Lincolnshire the riders went through Haxey, Upperthorpe, West Woodside and Wroot. At this point the ride entered South Yorkshire as the riders made their way through Blaxton, Finningley and Rossington.

Arriving at Harworth, the group paused at the cemetery to pay their respects to cyclist Tom Simpson who died riding the Tour de France in 1967.

The group then went through Styrrup, Oldcotes, Blyth, Barnby Moor, Babworth, Eaton, Upton, Treswell, South and North Leverton, Sturton le Steeple, Bole, Saundby and Beckingham, returning to Gainsborough using the A631 cycle path.

The riders departed Gainsborough at 7.10am returning home at 1.15pm.

Racing Report

The Wednesday 8th August Gainsborough Aegir Time Trial was over a distance of 10 miles.

The start was on Laughton Lane, the riders proceeded towards Laughton at T-junction just before the village a left turning was made heading through Laughton Forest then heading towards East Ferry.

At East Ferry, the riverside road was followed heading through Wildsworth to East Stockwith, then following Carr Lane to finish at bridge beyond entrance to Burnt Bridge Farm.

The evening was ideal for cycling with some good times done by the riders. Personal best times were achieved by Jordan Skelly, Julian Hesp, Matt Hindmarsh, Joe Noble, Joe Nash and Andy Clarke.

Gainsborough Aegir CC: 1st Jordan Skelly 25 minutes 31 seconds, 2nd Julian Hesp 25 minutes 35 seconds, 3rd Matt Hindmarsh 26 minutes 22 seconds, 4th Joe Noble 26 minutes 48 seconds (juvenile), 5th Joe Nash 27 minutes 39 seconds, 6th Trevor Halstead 29 minutes 38 seconds, 7th Andy Clarke 29 minutes 54 seconds.

Private Trials (Non Club Members): 1st Luke Mathews 23 minutes 38 seconds Trent Valley Road Club, 2nd Mike Derrane 25 minutes 54 seconds Mersey Tri, 3rd Steve Brown 31 minutes 03 seconds (Trike) Scunthorpe Road Club.

On Sunday 12th August Jordan Skelly took part in Alford Wheelers Diamond Jubilee 25-mile Time Trial, it was windy but Jordan achieved a good time of 1 hour 8 minutes 17 seconds.

Liam Hindmarsh, 14, has enjoyed good summer season racing at Blyton, Liam and his father Matt Hindmarsh are sampling track riding at Quibell Park in Scunthorpe and enjoying it.

Next week’s events are: Sunday 19th August Leisure ride to Belton with Dinner at Belton Garden Centre. Meet Roseway Gainsborough 9.20am, suitable for beginners (Medium Ride).

Wednesday 22nd August: 10-mile and juvenile seven-mile race starting on Laughton Lane, riders should meet at 6.15pm first rider off at 6.30pm.
