Riders find it tough

A WARM but cloudy evening greeted cyclists at Ingham for the fourth round of the TLI Lincolnshire Road Racing League.

Three riders from Gainsborough’s Trent Valley Road Club, Jeremy Hodson, Justin Atkinson and Shaun Pycroft, were in attendance.

Starting near Ingham village the race moved on to Cammeringham village where the first ascent of Brattleby Hill was made. Once over the top, riders turned left and raced along the top of the hill before descending towards Ingham to complete one lap.

Unfortunately Justin had a mechanical problem on his bike and was unable to start, while Shaun and Jeremy were sent off in group two, Jeremy being a little nervous as it was his first road race.

He and Shaun lost contact with the group on the second ascent of Brattleby Hill, but Shaun joined up with another rider and they worked well together for the remainder of the race, while Jeremy was also working with another rider to finish on the same lap as Shaun.

It was a good race but clearly both riders had not quite good enough form to cope with the pace on the hill.

The following evening the club held a 17-mile time trial on the Laughton-Susworth-Walkerith course and results were: Ian Ferraby 47mins 13secs, Kevin Bilcliffe 55-07; private trial - Jordan Skelly (Gainsborough Aegir CC) 46-58.
