Richard Silverwood’s RACELINE: TIP OF THE DAY

Wednesday September 19

NICHOLS CANYON

Sandown 2.50 WIN

With last Saturday’s St Leger still fresh in the mind, it’s appropriate that today’s tip boasts a strong link to the Doncaster Classic. For his trainer, John Gosden, used this same maiden for the winning debut of Masked Marvel, who went on to glory on Town Moor two years ago. It remains to be seen whether this colt can scale similar heights but he is a son of 2007 Derby winner Authorised and he is also related to several other Group One victors. For most of his debut, on this track last month, he was all over the place and incredibly green. But he was noted running on very strongly inside the final furlong and must have learned a lot. His main rival today appears to be Andrew Balding’s Havana Beat, although I’d be most concerned about Mick Channon’s well-bred newcomer, Elidor, who is a half-brother to Aidan O’Brien’s Irish Derby winner, Treasure Beach.
