This year the race started at Worksop where Jon Hewitt and Peter Barr for Retford were able to capitalise on an early mistake from the leading Worksop pair who took a wrong turn onto the canal.

Hewitt made it first to Osberton, followed shortly by Barr who handed over to Becky Chadwick and Jess Dewsbury with a small lead.

The two Retford ladies had a fantastic run to Ranby and maintained the lead.

Fell runners Steve Wathall, Pete Gilbert and Gerald Connor took over for Retford, and the lead changed several times, before Retford handed over first at Green Mile.

Andy Kinsley and Lee Ellis took up the challenge on the next leg heading to Lady Bridge, but were overtaken by Worksop who raced into a half minute lead.

Retford’s Peter Tallents, and debutant Ben Harris hit back, with a three minute lead.

For Retford, the ‘glory leg’ was down to Andy Kinsley and Lee Ellis, and although Worksop’s Steve Battle managed to split them on the finish line, Ellis came home ahead of the second Worksop runner to give his team the honours.

Retford lifted the Chris Ryan Memorial Cup, finishing in 2hrs 16mins and made the score 8-6 in their favour.

Thanks to Worksop Harriers for their hospitality and to the marshals, supporters and race-co-ordinators.
