Retford athletes hit the streets of London and Manchester

First home for Retford was Ben Harris, 37, a GP who lives in Retford who finished ina great time of 2:45:59, just a few minutes behind the legendary Paula Radcliffe who was taking part in her final London Marathon.

Next home for Retford was Jacqui Ferris, 48, a teacher who lives in Retford, who finished in 4:26:50, followed by Patrick Clayton, a service manager from Ranskill, who finished in 4:44:17.

Delighted with her achievement, Ferris said: “It took a lot of training through the winter months and it was hard work on the day but the atmosphere was amazing and the crowd helped to pull me through.”

“This was my first marathon and it was a real privilege to be able to take part in such a prestigious national event”.

A week earlier four members of the club took part in the Greater Manchester Marathon.

First home was David Corbett, 40, a programme head who lives in Retford, who finished the race just over the three hour mark in 3:00:43, taking off over 15 minutes from his previous personal best time which was enough for him to qualify for a Good for Age place in next year’s London Marathon.

Next home was Andy Kinsley, 30, a Retford mental health nurse, who despite an injury finished in a very respectable time of 3:10:19, followed by Chris Pepper, 21, in 3:48:30.

East Markham’s Dave Windle was last home for Retford finishing in a very respectable time of 4:19:36.
