WE start this weeks column by wishing everyone a very Happy Christmas.

On that note we would like to inform you of the opening times of the local retailers over the festive period.

With many of you receiving items of fishing tackle, vouchers and clothing from loved ones you may need to get some bait and other equipment.

Gateford Angling will close early on Christmas Eve and not open until Thursday 28th, closing again early on New Year’s Eve and re-opening on Thursday 3rd January.

Ken Ward Sports will be open Sunday 23rd from 10am until 2pm and the shop closes for Chrismas for 25th and 26th, and again for New Year’s Day.

Worksop Angling Supplies are shut on Christmas and Boxing Day and once again on 1st January.

Retford Angling will have their doors closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and then New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day the following week.

And finally D&P Tackle of Dinnington will be shut for Chrismas Day and Boxing Day, and New Year’s day.

Changing tack, we urge all anglers to be careful this time of year after recent events when anglers have unfortunately lost their lives due to slippery banks and flooded rivers and streams.

COMMERCIAL ROUND-UP

THE anglers from D&P Tackle of Dinnington held their latest match on the lily pond at Lodge Farm: 1st Dan Scaforonski 34lb 15oz peg 70 bomb and pellet; 2nd Darren Smith 32lb 13oz peg 52 method feeder; 3rd Barry Tuplin 27lb 8oz peg 53 27lb 8oz method feeder.

Staying with Lodge Farm, Bill tells us that he will be holding a Christmas Eve open event at the venue with a £15 entry and a 9am draw at the cafe.

The lake to be fished will be chosen nearer the time.

The usual open matches will be fished on the normal times and days.

At Lakeside Fishery on the main lake, Gary Brookes triumphed in the latest winter league match with 28lb 13oz of ide and skimmers from peg 13 taken on pole fished maggot.

On the strip ponds DJ Angling held a knock up with Dave Lakin putting together a winning net of roach and rudd weighing 28lb 3oz off peg 3 on the first strip with poled maggot.

On the carp pond specimen hunter Carl Harrison landed four lumps which included a common of 23lb 4oz on his boilie from peg 6.

Whilst over on the trout pond regular visitor Ian Wilkinson tempted 17 fish on his various buzzers, John Burns slipping his net under 11 fish to 8lb on his segmented bloodworm cast on a sinking line.
