Redlands celebrate success

Redlands Table Tennis Club will celebrate another very successful season on Friday when players from their 10 teams meet for their annual Closed Doubles Championship, to play for the trophy donated by club sponsor David Hooton.

Among the honours gained by the club this year are the Division One and Two titles by their Fluffy Toys and Joggers teams, the Diamond Premier by the Roosters and MBE Trophy by the Tarr Babies.

Individual honours have gone to Richard Wesley in the Open Singles with Isobel Ashley in runner-up spot, Dennis Learad and Owen Shutt winner and runner-up in the Division Two singles and Tom McIntosh in both the Division Three and the

Under Twelves singles.

Ashley won the Ladies Singles and the Junior Singles, and Kyle McIntosh the Cadet Singles.

A host of others including Lea Dickinson, Terry Emerson, Nathan, Langley, Matthew Mudd and Jack Tarr added runners-up trophies to the club’s tally.

The Redlands School team of Tom McIntosh, Lewis Comley, Matthew Mudd, Kieron Tutter and Nathan Langley were runners-up in the National Team Championship, losing by the smallest possible margin of one point over the whole competiton.

Young Tom McIntosh made his debut for England Schools and Isobel Ashley, still a junior, is rapidly climbing the National Rankings.

Both are hoping to emulate Worksop’s Sam Walker, the number one ranked England Under Eighteen currently playing in Germany.

Sam is the son of the Redlands club’s founder, organiser and inspiration Steve Walker, himself a team member of the Division One winners, Redlands Fluffy Toys.
