MILLY’S GIFT

Leicester 4.00 WIN

It was one of the shocks of my punting summer when Clive Cox’s four-year-old filly failed to sparkle in a big sprint handicap at Ascot during King George weekend. She had looked a progressive sort going places on her previous two runs, particularly when coming from the clouds, isolated from the pace, at the same Berkshire track earlier that month. However, Cox reports that nothing has been found wrong with her since her last outing and, after a two-month break, she is back and firing on all cylinders today. She must carry top weight in a respectable, little heat, but if the ambitions of connections to get some black type for her are to be realised, this is a race she really needs to be winning. It is a good sign that she is re-united with 3lb claimer Ryan Tate, who gets on well with her.
