Raceline Tip of the Day, 17th January

Only one jumps card has survived the weather today -- and even that, at Wincanton, is in the lap of Jack Frost. If it goes ahead, here is today’s tip.

Thursday 17th January

CHARTREUX

Wincanton 2.50 WIN

When with his previous trainer, David Pipe, this Roger Brookhouse-owned grey started favourite for one of the big handicap hurdles at the 2011 Cheltenham Festival, which underlined the regard in which he was held. After failing to fulfil his potential at Pond House, he was switched to the yard of Tom George, where he finally appears to be finding his feet as a mud-loving staying chaser, for which he was bred. The eight-year-old caught the eye at Newbury last time, even though he was beaten into second. He travelled strongly and jumped well, and still has plenty of room for manoeuvre from his current handicap mark, which is 6lb lower than that he achieved over hurdles. He must shoulder a big weight in this Somerset National, but has trip and ground conditions to suit.

WEDNESDAY: COLOUR SQUADRON 4TH
