Quartet represent club at Lincs CTC AGM

THE ground was white with frost as Trevor Halstead, Joe Smith, Daniel Nicholson and Colin Smith departed from Roseway, for the Lincolnshire CTC AGM in Louth.

The riders arrived in good time, meeting up with other cyclists who had travelled from all areas of the county to the meeting by cycle or car.

After all the usual AGM business trophies were presented.

The BSA Merit Cup for work done running a member group and its activities was awarded to Rod Whiting.

The BBC presenter completed a 600 mile Children in Need ride, titled ‘From the Rhineland to the Fenland’.

The ride from Neustadt an der Weinstrasse in Germany finished in Lincoln, raising over £20,000 for the charity.

The Paul Enderby Memorial Trophy was awarded to the Lincoln group for providing the most help and riders in the region’s Audax events.

The West Lincolnshire Trophy went to 16-year-old Joe Smith, who took up cycle touring at the start of the year.

The youngster rides as a member of Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club and The West Lincolnshire group of the CTC.

Smith has taken part in many club rides throughout the year, also taking part in a 100 mile charity ride to Nottingham, and Gainsborough’s National Bike Week ride, raising cash for The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance.

The CTC Lincolnshire Photography Trophy for a picture taken of riders on a CTC ride was won by Trevor Halstead.

He snapped his award winning picture of Gainsborough Aegir members out on a family ride along Laughton Lane in September.

In the afternoon Colin Smith and Trevor Halstead joined riders departing from Louth riding over the Wolds.

As the ride progressed, riders headed homewards in different directions, Colin and Trevor returning home via Bardney using Sustrans National cycle Network 1 (Water Railway) and route 64, reaching their destination of Gainsborough via Saxilby.

Sunday’s ride is a morning ride, finishing at Gainsborough Beer Festival in the Old Hall.

Riders should meet at Roseway, Gainsborough at 9am for a short ride, suitable for families and beginners.
