Quartet of clubs get ‘Legacy’ funding

FOUR Bassetlaw sports groups have benefitted from Notts County Council’s ‘legacy fund’.

The £1m sports funding is to go towards supporting grassroots community sport.

And successful applications have been made by Worksop Harriers, Retford Swimming Club, Retford Bowling Green and Babworth Rovers.

Announcing the first successful recipients under the ‘Kick Start Rapid’ section of the fund, Coun John Cottee, culture committee chairman at Notts County Council said: “We are delighted that the Sports Legacy Fund has captured the imagination of local people and it is superb that so many people have taken the time and effort to apply.”

“We anticipated a need for sports funding following London 2012 and the response has been terrific.”

“We are also determined to ensure we build on the legacy of the Games without delay – which is why we are pleased to announce the first of the small scale grants.”

“Congratulations to all of those successful applications – this money is sure to make a real difference and we look forward to looking at more of the bids in the coming weeks.”

The Harriers have had a £1,990 grant for coaching bags, including a range of equipment for strength and conditioning.

Retford Swimming Club received £1,008 to put towards basic training equipment, while Retford Bowling Green were given £1,990 to encourage locals to take up the sport of bowling.

A grant of £2,000 went to Babworth Rovers to upgrade the electrics in their changing rooms and kitchen and renew fixed heaters in the changing rooms.
