Profile: Wetlands

CONTINUING with our look around the local commercials this week we turn our attention to the Wetlands Animal Park and Fishery.

Situated at Sutton-cum-Lound it covers over 32 acres with two large lakes providing a mixture of sport to suit the matchman or carp specialist.

But it is the casual angler that we will be focusing on.

The main match lake has 48 pegs with roach, perch, bream, tench, ide and carp to in excess of 20lbs, although fishery manager Clive informs us that there are plans to move the larger fish to the back lake.

He has recently stocked 500 commons and mirrors in the 1lb to 2lb range to supplement the already prolific stocks.

Although the lake is considered to be primarily a match lake Tuesdays and Thursdays are given over to the pleasure angler and last year’s top match weight of 196lb gives an indication of the sport.

The pegs are well spaced and the fish are well spread throughout the lake and will fall to most methods, although pellet and paste attract larger lumps.

The back lake is available for pleasure fishing every day and although it is a mixed fishery it does contain carp in excess of 30lb so we would advise you to beef up your tackle accordingly to avoid broken poles and crack offs.

There are 30 pegs and Clive has plans to improve peg access and on-site parking for the lake.

The cost for the day for both pleasure and match bookings is £6 per peg and the beauty of this venue is that for the non -anglers in the family there is the surrounding animal park.
