NOMINATIONS have begun flooding in for the 2011 Bassetlaw Sports Awards.

And as an added incentive, anyone submitting a nomination will be entered into a prize draw to win £100 or £50 worth of vouchers for Ken Ward Sports in Worksop.

Last year, the coach of the Ryton Park Girls football team, Mary Paton, won £100 for nominating her girls, who took the Bassetlaw Champion of Champions title, and the Notts County Championships.

After finishing runners-up in the Midlands Championships, Ryton Park qualified for the National Finals, where they eventually lost out to tournament winners, Suffolk County.

Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, Coun Julie Leigh encouraged the supporters of local sport stars to get nominating.

She said: “The district’s sporting achievements should be a source of pride to us all. I was delighted to see Tesni Ward, one of last year’s winners break the Welsh Javelin record last month.”

“By getting involved and submitting a nomination people can help us recognise the fantastic achievements of Bassetlaw Sports Men and Women.”

The deadline for applications is Friday 4th November 2011 and the ceremony will take place on Friday 9th December at Retford Oaks Specialist Sports College.
