Pedalling Pete gets a personal best in Aegir Cycling Club’s 15-mile time trial

LAST Wednesday evening saw Gainsborough Aegir Cycling Club’s 15 and eight-mile time trials take place with Pete Hanks the first clubman home in the 15-mile event.

He produced a personal best time of 43 minutes 11 seconds and is getting faster, only starting racing at the start of the 2011 season.

New rider Karl Peace produced a good time of 42 minutes 25 seconds, but the fastest rider of the event was Steve Barron (Vello Club Lincoln) with a time of 37 minutes 02 seconds.

Results: 15 miles - 1, Peter Hanks 43-11; 2, Trevor Halstead 45-47; 3, Matt Hindmarsh 49-31; private trials (non-club members) - 1, Steve Barron (Vello Club Lincoln) 37-02; 2, Jon Clarke (Lincoln Wheelers) 37-50; 3, Karl Peace 42-25; 4, Steve Brown, trike (Scunthorpe Road Club) 44-58 seconds. Eight miles - Liam Hindmarsh (juvenile) 29-21.

On Sunday Daniel Nicholson, Trevor Halstead, Loll Dickenson, David Chaffey and 14-year-old Freddie Barnes enjoyed a 58-mile ride to Alkborough’s ancient Turf Maze.

The route took the riders out of town through the Isle of Axholme, following the River Trent to Gunness, then riding through Flixborough, Burton-upon-Stather and Walcot.

The group made a lunch stop at The Paddocks Tea Rooms before viewing the ancient Turf Maze.

The ride home took the riders through West Halton, Coleby, Thealby, Flixborough, Gunness, Burringham, East Butterwick and Susworth, returning to Gainsborough through Laughton Woods and Morton. The cycle path from Morton along side the River Trent was used to arrive back in town.

On Sunday 14th August there is a leisure ride to Blyton via Laughton Woods (20 miles), meet Roseway, Gainsborough, 10am (suitable for families and beginners).

Also on that date there is the Gainsborough Aegir Championship 100-mile time trial.

On Wednesday 17th August the club’s League 10 and Juvenile seven-mile time trials take place and riders should meet on Laughton Road near Croft Farm at 6.15pm, first rider off at 6.30pm.
