Outlaws set for plenty of Friday fun in T20

Notts Outlaws will play five of their seven home NatWest T20 Blast matches on Friday nights - and the other two on Saturday afternoons - as the 2016 domestic fixture schedule is announced.

Starting with the visit of the Birmingham Bears on 20 May, the Outlaws will also host Derbyshire Falcons, Durham Jets, Yorkshire Vikings and Leicestershire Foxes with 6.30pm starts on Friday evenings through to the middle of July.

Summer Saturday afternoons against Lancashire Lightning and Worcestershire Rapids, meanwhile, provide perfect opportunities for a family outing.

“If we can get some momentum with a regular feeling of playing well and getting good crowds down here at Trent Bridge, that would be fantastic,” said director of cricket Mick Newell on the T20 Blast.

“T20 is massively important for us - and we averaged over 10,000 people last season.

“We generally play pretty exciting cricket and – if you put on a good show in Nottingham – people will come and watch.”

Following a trip to Fenner’s to face Cambridge MCCU, Nottinghamshire will begin their County Championship campaign against Surrey at Trent Bridge on Sunday, April 10, quickly followed by a trip to Emirates Old Trafford to face Lancashire.

Newell added: “We’re playing the two newly-promoted teams in the opening two games. We’re keen to get off to a good start, as they will be. It’s a very strong looking division, but it’s difficult to predict too far ahead.”

Reigning champions Yorkshire are the visitors for the second home game of the season on Sunday, May 1, before a trip to Lord’s and a home match against Warwickshire complete the sequence of uninterrupted four-day cricket prior to the NatWest T20 Blast opener.

A bumper week of white ball action comes to Trent Bridge in early June with T20 matches against Lancashire Lightning and Derbyshire Falcons - and 50-over cricket versus Northamptonshire Steelbacks and Warwickshire Bears - all in the space of a week starting on Saturday, June 4.

Moving into July, the successful Welbeck Weekender in 2015 sees the northern outpost rewarded with a 50-over local derby against Derbyshire Falcons on Sunday, July 24.

The quarter-finals of both white ball competitions are scheduled for early to mid-August, followed by NatWest T20 Blast Finals Day on Saturday 20 August and the 50-over final at Lord’s on Saturday, September 17.

T20 matches at Derbyshire and Leicestershire take place on Friday, June 24 and Tuesday, July 12 respectively - and there are out ground fixtures at Blackpool and Scarborough to look forward to.
