Following the strict code of practice set out by British Triathlon Federation, the club has put in place swim sessions at the BPL Leisure Centre.

The sessions, that must be pre booked online by club members, have a limited number of places available.

There are only three swim lanes available for five swimmers per lane. This allows for appropriate social distancing in the pool.

Mid-week sessions are coached, but the Saturday morning sessions are based around a swim set written up by head coach Steve Chambers and it is up to individual swimmers to complete the session to their own level of ability.

The club’s Covid 19 officer and club volunteers check all participants for the signs of the virus and everyone has a temperature check before being allowed into the pool. A “track and trace” system is also in place.

Club member, Jayne Flower, attended one of the first sessions and commented: “The first session back in the pool went like clockwork. Many thanks to those that made it possible. It has been well thought out. I felt safe and enjoyed the session.”

Head coach Steve Chambers added: “It was great to see the 15 allocated swim slots all taken this morning.

"It was a nice ease back session for the members after a lengthy lay off for many.”
