Ordsall Bridon denied in run-fest

Bassetlaw and District Cricket League Champions leaders Ordsall Bridon were denied a win by visitors Glapwell on Saturday.

Batting first, the home side amassed a formidable total of 302 for 5, the Glapwell bowling attack unable to penetrate beyond the middle order as Ordsall hit the third highest total of the weekend.

It was Paul van den Heuven who again starred with the bat, the former Marshalls man reaching his century before being dismissed for 120.

Darren Spooner, Tim Miles and David Fagan all fell just short of their half centuries, losing their wickets in the 40s.

Glapwell set about their chase in determined fashion, but a regular fall of wickets kept the run rate down.

Henry Appleyard excelled with the ball for Ordsall, taking three for 61 in what proved to be a batsman’s match.

With outright victory out of the question, Glapwell set about playing out the innings.

An unbeaten 76 from Liam Douglas was enough to claim a losing draw for the visitors.

The 17 points leaves Ordsall 16 clear of second-place Anston at the top of the Championship table.
