Olympic blow for Swift

ANSTON cycle star Ben Swift suffered bitter disappointment this week, as his London 2012 Olympic hopes were dashed.

Swift missed out on selection for the final GB road race team, but was stoical in his reaction.

The Beijing Olympian and Team Sky rider posted a good luck message to the cyclists who did make the team, and summed up his feelings on his official website.

He said: “Unfortunately, I have not made the final five selection for the Olympic Road Race.”

“It is disappointing but I always knew it was going to be hard to make the selection – the guys that have been selected are some of the best at their job.”

“I am part of the reserve team and need to be ready to go if anything were to happen.”

“I wish Team GB the best of luck at this home Olympic Games, smash it guys.”

Next for Swift will be the Tour of Poland next week.
