Worksop shoppers in 1900s

THIS week’s Archive Corner picture shows Bridge Street in Worksop.

It dates from the 1900s and shows the Queen’s Head pub on the right. The proprietor was Albert Selby.

Also on the right is the name T. Selby which was a cycling business.

On the left is an advert for Bradleys boot and shoemaker.

As we can see from the cars and bikes, this was long before the days of Bridge Street being pedestrianised.

A lot of people appear to be walking in the road however, which is an indication of how little traffic there was back then.

Bridge Street remains Worksop’s premier shopping road, particularly now with the market being placed along it.

Do you have any pictures of Worksop scenes in 1952?

We are looking for photos from 60 years ago to use in a special supplement celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Perhaps you have pictures of a special event to celebrate her accession to the throne after the death of her father King George VI.

Or maybe you were celebrating your own special occasion that year, a birth, a marriage or an anniversary.

Whatever your pictures from that year we would like to see them and share them with our readers.

You can bring them into our Ryton Street offices or email them.
