Nurse Gladys at Crossing

Nurse Gladys Emanuel actress Lynda Baron will be guest compere at the Happy and Glorious concert coming to The Crossing next month.

The show on 14th July will be one of the high points of the 2012 Music @ The Crossing public concert series.

It will feature songs performed at Royal Command performances from the 1953 coronation to the present.

Soprano Michelle Todd and baritone Tom Solomon will sing well-known solos and duets from shows such as Oklahoma, Chess, Cats, Mamma Mia!, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Miss Saigon and many more.

Lynda, in her role as nurse Gladys, was the object of corner shopkeeper Arkwright’s affections in BBC TV’s long-running comedy Open All Hours, starring Ronnie Barker and David Jason.

She is also an acclaimed theatre performer and is known by today’s children as Auntie Mabel, flying over the countryside in her spotted aeroplane in the series Come Outside.

Award-winning soprano and actress Michelle was born and raised in Sutton-in-Ashfield and is equally at home in musical theatre and oratorio.

Tom studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Academy of Music in London.

His West End credits include William Hogarth in the original London cast of Pleasure’s Progress at the Royal Opera House, and Harry and Young Scrooge opposite Tommy Steele in Scrooge at the London Palladium.
