Machine arrives at Manton pit

The photo was sent to us by Guardian reader Teresa Raynor.

Her dad Tommy Bonser is pictured in the middle, with his workmates either side.

Mr Bonser died in August, aged 76, and Mrs Raynor said they found the photo when they were putting together a collage for his funeral.

She said: “We would like to know who the other men are because there were no names with it.”

“We think it was taken during the 1970s. I was still at school and I’m 50 now.”

“It was taken the day they brought that machine in to use at the coal face.”

Mrs Raynor said her dad was very well liked and had lots of friends.

He lived in the same house on Firbeck Crescent, Langold, for 54 years with his wife Alma.

“His funeral was at St Luke’s in Langold and it was packed,” said Mrs Raynor.

“He worked at Firbeck pit until it shut and then worked at Manton until he got made redundant when he was in his early 50s.”

Mr and Mrs Bonser had five children, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

“Dad doted on his family and we doted on him, he was a lovely man,” said Mrs Raynor.
