Netminder delighted as Steelers win twice

The ice hockey netminder helped the South Yorkshire outfit to victories over Hull and Fife on consecutive nights, as they conceded just three goals all weekend.

“We hadn’t been to successful in putting four point weekends together so it was a great feeling to do it again this weekend. It was well deserved,” he said.

“These past two games were so important. I felt we came together as a team and everyone of us in that room came to play on both nights.”

Doyle didn’t believe the Steelers did anything different to weekends gone by: “I didn’t see anything specific. It’s just that this is a league you have to come ready to play and we did.”

“In the past there has been a mixture of reasons things didn’t go our way.”

“A bad bounce, a bad call.”

“This weekend we didn’t allow that and things worked out well, some weekends we just have found ourselves on the wrong end of the stick.”

Steelers will have had a 10-day break by the time they hit the ice again, taking on Edinburgh Capitals at Ice Sheffield next Wednesday.

Doyle said there were upsides and downsides to the break: “Part of you wants to quickly build on those two wins after waiting for them.”

“On the flip side we have some beaten up bodies that need the rest and time away from the rink.”

“Maybe the break has come at the best time for those guys.”

The Steelers 2-1 road victory on Saturday in Hull assures them of a Challenge Cup quarter-final tie against either Dundee Stars or the Fife Flyers in January.
