Much to celebrate as Worksop Ladies look back on the season

There was much to celebrate at the Worksop Ladies Hockey Club end of season award ceremony.

The club’s second team gained promotion to Notts Division One and added a cup to the trophy cabinet, while the firsts finished third in the very competitive Premier Division.

A newly-formed third team secured a midtable finish and ended on a high with a run of six games unbeaten.

The main focus of the evening however was on the achievements and contributions of individuals.

The stand-out winners on the night were talented youngsters Megan Stokes of the second team and Sophie Hughes of the third team, who each won the Players’ Player and Player of the Year awards for their respective teams.

Stokes was also announced as Junior Player of the Year which she shared with first team player Jade Hamer.

Other first team trophies went to Ailsa Gray as Players’ Player of the Year and Katie Hetherington and Rebecca Steeple who shared the Player of the Year award.

The Most Improved Player awards went to Helen Williams (firsts), Jane Cartwright (seconds) and Kelly Vuta (thirds).

The John Saunders Memorial Trophy, awarded to club members who make an outstanding contribution off the pitch, was awarded to Chloe Warrener for her help in establishing the third team.

Club member Joanne Rice raised over £950 for club funds on the night.

Annabelle Wilson said: “The club is in excellent shape with a growing membership.”

“We’d like to thank umpires Bob Morton, Alan Nash and Dave Rhodes, and pub landlords Karen and Andrew Woods for their hospitality at the Shireoaks Inn.”
