Inspired by star meeting

AN Anston Hillcrest pupil has been inspired by a recent encounter with his sporting hero.

Daniel Fisher, 10, met up with British motorcross champion Gordan Crockard in Murcia, Spain, while on holiday with his family.

The youngster then returned home to race at Mallory Park and picked up his first win on his 65cc bike.

Proud mum Kay told the Guardian about the family’s camper van trip into Europe, to try out Spanish race courses.

“We drove 3,500 miles to Murcia where our sons met the British Pro motorcross team, including champion Gordan Crockard,” she said.

“They were practising on the same track as the boys, it was fantastic, they had pictures taken with them.”

“The boys absolutely loved it.”

“And we came back on the Thursday, then on the Sunday Dan had his first win at Mallory Park.”

Dan followed that success with third overall at the Coventry Championship and then an eighth-place finish at Finningley.

Kay explained how her sons got involved in the motorsport.

She said: “Dan started on a 50cc quad when my husband Andy went out and bought him one, but there wasn’t anywhere to take the boys.”

“Andy decided to take them to a race and they started to get interested in bikes, and it all progressed from there.”

Dan has had help in his fledgling career from family friends the Williams, whose son Kurtis is making waves in the world of motorcross and recently won the YMSA Winter Series Championship.

Kay said: “We have to thank Jane and Russell Williams for their help and support over the past year.”

“My boys look up to Kurtis in a big way.”

“Our company Signfit sponsors him and it was great to see him win the Winter Series.”
