Skipper Mark Cummins took five wickets for Rotherham Town as they secured a comfortable six-wicket victory over Appleby Frodingham in the Yorkshire Premier Cricket League on Saturday.

Cummins led by example, taking five wickets for just 22 runs as Rotherham brought their rival’s innings to an end after just 44 overs, with only 127 runs on the board.

As well as Cummins’ haul, Ben Sanderson took 3-34, while Vinnie Ogden chipped in with 2-38.

In reply, it took Rotherham just 31.1 overs to reach that target. Overseas ace Anthony Del Borrello was unbeaten on 65 and contributed the lion’s share of the runs for Rotherham who retain top spot in the table.

Just one point behind Rotherham are Barnsley, who kept pace with their South Yorkshire rivals with a thrilling win over third-placed Harrogate.

Harrogate totalled 252 all out, their final wicket falling with the penultimate ball as Barnsley pushed hard to take an eight-point win instead of the six they would’ve received if they hadn’t taken all their rival’s wickets.

Junior ace Ali Jahangir took 5-50 for Barnsley, and Azeem Rafiq took 3-56 to do much of the damage to Harrogate, for whom overseas player Connor Ryan was top-scorer on 44.

In reply, Barnsley reached a winning score of 256-5 in the 45th over. Their overseas ace Zohaib Ahmad was unbeaten on 77, while Danial Rafiq added 74 to the total and Matthew Wilson 39.

Sheffield Collegiate were thumped by former league champions York, who won by eight wickets at Abbeydale.

Batting first, Collegiate were all out for 130 in the 33rd over. Will Root’s 25 was their best batting performance as York dominated.

In reply, York took just 28.4 overs to reach a winning 136-2, with Luke Shutt and Matt Dixon taking a wicket each.

Sheffield United also lost out, with hosts Hull taking victory at Chanterlands Avenue.

Jaco Scholtz was United’s top scorer, the overseas man adding 67, while Isuru Jayakody scored 33 and Bilal Anjam 31, but it wasn’t quite enough for the win.

Hull opener Andy Simpson proved unstoppable and finished on 143 not out, while Chris Grey added 61 as Hull reached a winning 254-3 in the 42nd over. Matthew Taylor took all three wickets for United.

Doncaster Town also suffered defeat, with Driffield Town winning by eight wickets at Town Fields.

The hosts were all out for 168 in the 46th over, with Rhys Mann’s hitting 30.

In reply, Driffield reached 169-2 in the 32nd over with Sam Drury unbeaten on 82, while Alex Gosney and Luke Townsend taking the wickets for Doncaster.
