A teenage snooker star who trains at North Notts Arena has earned an invite to the World Under 21 Championship s in China.
Ash Carty, from Thurcroft, learned his trade under coach Darren Presgrave at the Worksop sports facilitiy, and recent performances in professional qualifying events have impressed the snooker authorities.
His invite to the World Championships came via a phone call last week, and dad John deemed it a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“You just can’t afford to miss out on something like that,” he said.
“If he can go there and win it it’s another way of getting onto the professional tour.”
Last week in Gloucester Carty beat the reigning World Under 21 Champion Lyu Haotian 5-4.
And he’ll have a chance to take on the rest of the world’s elite youngsters next month, thanks to some generous backers.
John added: “Hudson Removals of Thurcroft, and Simm Conveyor Services in Maltby are supporting him.”
“Simm have stumped up a significant amount which has enabled him to book flights, so we’re very grateful.”
