X Box Boxing Academy have made a thrilling start to the new fight season, with 10 victories and a place in a national final.
Nicola Hopewell will represent the Worksop outfit at the famous York Hall in Bethnal Green this Saturday in the National Development Championships.
The 24-year-old has only been involved in the sport for two years, and fighting competitively for one.
But her lack of experience was no concern last weekend, when she won a semi-final by TKO in Doncaster.
Hopewell told the Guardian: “I am overwhelmed to have the opportunity to box at Bethnal Green in London on Saturday, representing X Box.
“All the coaches who do the academy sessions, Chris, Dean, Lee and Adam all bring something different to training, and the club’s admin Sally is a good friend and a massive support.
“I have learnt everything I know from them, and I’m still learning - I have to thank them all for the support.”
Another rising star at the Claylands Industrial Estate gym is Jack Scott.
The 16-year-old has had three bouts this season, winning all three.
Dylan Clegg and Central England champion Elliot Holloway have also made impressive starts to 2015/16, having their hands raised.
October 15th saw the club’s home show at Stanley Street Sports Club, with a packed house watching 12 contests.
Head coach Chris Boyle was over the moon with the club’s results.
“Outwood Academy Portland student Harry Smith, who is autistic, won his first bout, while Hopewell picked up a victory and Holloway knocked out a boxer coached by the great Henry Warton.
“And at Doncaster, Rowan Gregory and up and coming star Holli Towl both competed, doing very well for us.
“We’ve made a banging start to the new season.”
