Game Scene

Toft Newton Reservoir: 81 rods caught 269 trout for a rod average of 3.32.

Another good early season week at Toft with some great hard fighting fish gracing the nets.

The best method by a long way has been to fish Nymphs on the droppers with a small Booby on the point ‘washing line’ style.

The usual array of Diawl Bachs, Crunchers and Buzzers are all firm favourites and the point fly should be along the lines of a White and Green Booby pattern.

Keep the retrieve on the slow side and don’t cast too far; the shallow edges seem to be doing particularly well at the moment.

Best fish of the week at 5lb 12oz fell to Chris Davison’s Black Booby.

Predator regulars Ricky Varley and Danny Peet enjoyed a day afloat fly fishing for pike and were rewarded with some exciting sport and four fish to 13lb.
