WORKSOP’S Lee Westwood is one over par as he begins his second round at the 140th Open Championship today.
He shot a 71 at Royal St George’s in Sandwich yesterday, playing alongside Steve Stricker and ISM stablemate Charl Schwartzel.
The world number two fought back from three over after five holes to stay just six shots behind leaders Thomas Bjorn and amateur Tom Lewis.
Speaking after his round he admitted: “I got off to a bad start.”
“I was three over after five, I didn’t have much luck on the greens.”
“But I salvaged the round, it could have been a lot worse. You don’t want to be chasing in a major championship.”
Westwood tees off at 9.09am, and seems to have the better side of the draw, with the weather fair and sunny this morning and expected to worsen this afternoon.
