This is the first year Lee Westwood has failed to land a top 20 finish in a major since 2007.

He finished 18 shots off winner Jason Day at last weekend’s US PGA Championship at Whistling Straits, the final major of 2015.

That left him with a share of 43rd place, his highest finish in any of the four majors this year.

He was tied for 46th at this year’s Masters, 50th at the US Open, and 49th at The Open.

On the first day at the Wisconsin course, Westwood went round in 72, even, as Dustin Johnson shot a six under par round to lead.

Play was suspended on Friday due to the bad weather, with Westood one under on the 16th, and another 72 was added to his card when he finished on Saturday.

Alongside Francesco Molinari in the third round, he was four under by the 16th, until bogeys at the last two holes saw him finish two under.

Sunday saw him shoot 72 again to pick up $30,000.

Fellow Lindrick Golf Club member Danny Willett was even for the championship, tied for 54th.
