Worksop’s Lee Westwood is back on the course this week, for his first competitive appearance of the year.
He’s playing at Torrey Pines in California in the Farmers Insurance Open, and excited to return to action.
The Florida resident said: “I’m looking forward to starting the year. I’ve had some good time off – about five weeks, I think.
Westwood is keen to put a winless 2013 behind him and improve, boosted by the return to his bag of close friend Billy Foster.
“I thought last year was pretty average,” he said.
“I gave myself a few chances to win tournaments, most notably at the Open Championship and Wells Fargo.”
“I played consistently well but not good enough, really, so I’m obviously trying to improve certain areas of my game.”
“I’ve got Billy back on the bag for this year. I played well when he was caddying for me a couple of years ago. I got to world number one, so hopefully he can be the catalyst to getting me back into shape where it should be.”
