Clowne Road Runner Andy Ward knocked seven seconds off his best time as he picked up third place in the Alsager 5-mile road race.

The race attracted over 900 runners, as Ward finished in 24.38, winning the Vet 40 category.

Ward is gearing up for the British National Cross Country Championships at Woolton Park on 22nd February .

Clubmate Ged Naylor ran the Dewsbury 10km race, an undulating course which attracted over 1,000 runners, and he finished in 39.01, in 161st position.

One of Clowne’s ladies on the comeback trail is physio Jackie Robson, who suffered various injuries in 2013.

With help from Blizard Physio, run by former international runners Dave Tune and Jenny Blizard, and Road Runners coach Andy Ward she took her 26 minutes-plus time for a 5k and turned it into 21.23.

Clowne Road Runners hosted race four of the “ Five Club Cross Country Competition” on Sunday over a very wet and muddy course.

The competition attracts runners from Clowne, Worksop Harriers, Retford AC, Killamarsh Kestrels and Handsworth Roadhogs.

First home for Clowne men was Lewis Banton, with Sarah Attwood leading the Clowne RR ladies home.

The final race is in two weeks’ time at Handsworth in Sheffield but it looks like Clowne, who have been without many of their top runners throughout the competition, will have to settle for second place this year, while local rivals Retford and Worksop Harriers fight it out for third,
